Do you want to Maintain their Figure over the Holidays?

Author: admin

How does one get to enjoy the holiday season and still maintain a figure.

Holidays are celebrated all over the world. So while finding time to get to the gym is hard it is even harder to maintain your hard earned figure. It is no fun not being able to eat your favorite foods over the holidays. But at the same time it is no fun looking in mirror on January 1.

The ghost of seasons past… There are some great places to be over the holidays. Up until the past few years, the holiday season starting with Thanksgiving, was like a splurge season for me. Although, I did exercise, I ate like this was the last holiday I would ever have again. It just is not much of a fair fight when your wife, mom, dad, etc. cooks your favorite holiday food. I enjoyed all the family dinners and get-togethers, but I didn’t enjoy trying to get my figure back. Gaining weight is so much easier than trying to lose it. Not to mention getting the motivation to lose it again. So how do I balance this out?

Make a game plan… Unfortunately there is not a way of doing this without burning some calories. So, yes, you still have to get out in the cold weather and exercise. I know it is difficult but it will be better for you. So here is a game plan that has helped me maintain my figure over the holiday season…

If you can, before your party or dinner get in a good cardio workout a couple of hours before hand. This will increase your metabolism and your body will be ready to burn some calories. It is ok to eat what you want. Just be sure not to gorge. Instead of grabbing a big plate grab one of those small plates you use for dessert. You still can eat your favorite foods just eating less. Go for a walk after you eat. It does not have to be a long one but it is good to get out and move around. Last but not least keep your exercise routine. Keeping true to your routine will definitely help you maintain that figure.

The Bottom Line… So in conclusion, the bottom line is if you want to maintain your figure over the holiday season you need to try to get a good cardio workout before you eat that great holiday food, eat small portions, go for a walk after you eat, and most importantly stay true to your workout routine. These steps may not be the best out there, and may not work for you, but they have worked well for me and it enables me to eat all the great foods I love to eat over the holiday season all while maintaining my figure.

Plastic Surgeons Use Cheek And Chin Implants To Bring A Greater Balance In One’s Face

Author: admin

The insertion of a chin implant into one’s chin may take anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour. During this surgery, the plastic surgeon will select the proper shape and size of implant to properly enhance your appearance. He or she will then proceed to insert the implant into a pocket that has been created over the front of the jawbone. The small incision that is used to create the pocket and to insert the facial implant is typically placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under a person’s chin area.

The chin will usually be taped after the procedure in order to minimize any discomfort and swelling. Sutures that were placed in the skin will be removed after five to seven days. If the cosmetic surgeon chose for you to have an intra-oral incision, the sutures will dissolve in time. While recovering from cosmetic chin surgery you will experience some mild swelling and discomfort in the affected area for several days after the procedure. It’s typically that you will experience some temporary difficulty with talking and smiling. Blue and black marks can be visible around the neck and chin in some cases. Your plastic surgeon will provide you with instructions about your dental hygiene, eating, and any other restrictions to your activities after the procedure.

Cheek implant surgery will typically take somewhere between thirty and forty-five minutes. When cheek implant surgery is being performed at the same time as another cosmetic surgery procedure, such as eyelid surgery, facelift, or forehead lift, the implants may be inserted through incisions made for those procedures. If not, an incision will likely be made inside your upper lip or lower eyelid. A pocket will then be formed and an implant will be inserted. After the surgery a dressing will be applied to your face to minimize the swelling and discomfort. The duration and severity of such side effects may vary, especially is any other cosmetic surgery procedure was performed at the same time.

When recovering from your cheek augmentation surgery, your cosmetic surgeon will provide you with instructions on how to properly care for yourself post-operatively. There will more than likely be dietary restrictions as well as limitations on your activities. Again, these instructions are going to be different for everyone, specifically if you had any other surgery performed along with your implant procedure. However, you should make sure that you are aware that your ability to move your lips and mouth may be temporarily diminished. Stitches that were used to close the incisions inside your mouth will typically dissolve within around ten days.

Dave Stringham, the President of LookingYourBest.com writes about plastic surgery in Detroit, Michigan and plastic surgery procedures including detroit chin implant, rhinoplasty, tummy tuck, facelift, eyelid surgery, arm lift, liposuction.

Why Tai Chi in America is So Weak

Author: admin

Most Tai Chi practiced in America is very weak, not at all like the art that was created 350 years ago by the Chen family in China. Recently, I read an Internet article listing 10 concepts you need to know to practice Tai Chi, but the teacher writing the article is teaching a weak version of the art.

The advice that most Tai Chi students receive from their teachers in America is wrong, but unfortunately, the students think it must be right and they’re learning high-quality Tai Chi. The teachers believe it, too. They do this because their teacher taught them a weak version of this art. The result — you meet their students and see quickly that they have no concept of body mechanics.

Here–briefly–is his list of top ten important things to focus on:

Concept 1: Tai Chi is done with an emphasis on every movement. Every movement must be connected to the next.

Concept 2: Maintain your shoulders dropped so that any tension will be eliminated.

Concept 3: Your wrists should be straight in order to maintain strength and a good flow of energy.

Concept 4: Learning to move ever more slowly is one path to increased cultivation.

Concept 5: Never let any hindrances stop you from being connected. In case you get disconnected, keep up with the motions.

Concept 6: In practicing Tai Chi, your knees must always be bent. Also you need to maintain your balance for your height not to bob up and down.

Concept 7: Power of Tai Chi will start from the feet going up to the legs, controlling the shoulders and will be expressed by the fingers and hands.

Concept 8: Your head must be maintained as if it was suspended on air.

Concept 9: Your chest must be depressed and your back should be raised but this must be done effortlessly.

Concept 10: Keep your breath to your body’s center of gravity, the dan tien; again this must be done effortlessly.

My Response to these Concepts

Most of these concepts are things that you need to know and do — but they are FAR from the top ten concepts you need. These are–in my opinion–things to think of after you begin focusing on the top concepts that you need to know.

Concepts 1 and 10 I can buy into. You must be connected through the body. As you progress, you should focus on the breathing with the dan t’ien, but that is NOT done effortlessly at first. It takes practice and focus.

Concepts 2 and three are just silly. Yes, you should relax your shoulders and “drop” them, and usually you try to keep the wrists straight. Focusing on the shoulders misses the mark. Students should be told to drop and sink their weight and relax everything, including the shoulders. At the same time, they must maintain ground and peng (see below).

Concept 4 is just wrong. Learning to move ever more slowly is the key? Actually, you learn to move properly in slow motion, you move faster and faster, learning fa-jing and how to apply the movements in self-defense. The more advanced you get, the more you are able to do the forms properly at both slow and combat speeds. Tai Chi is a martial art, first and foremost.

Concept 5 is a distraction. Don’t get distracted? Well of course. That also applies to reading a book.

Concept 6 is about bending the knees. This is another way to say relax and sink your weight.

He almost nails Concept 7. Power does start in the ground, travels through the legs — but he ignores the key concept that it is guided by the dan t’ien and then is expressed through the hands (or whatever part of the body is striking). Inserting the shoulders here is goofy. The power has to go through the shoulders but they are conduits for internal strength and should be kept out of play as much as possible except in certain circumstances involving kou energy.

Concepts 8 and 9 are pieces of advice told to all Tai Chi students. Yes, you keep your head up and balanced. The chest is slightly hollowed and the back slightly rounded but this is part of the whole body connection.

The Real Concepts You Must Focus on in Tai Chi

1. Establish and Maintain the Ground Path: All strength and power originates in the ground. You must maintain the ground connection throughout every movement, even the movements that some people call “transitions” (there are no transitions in Tai Chi, there are only fighting applications).

2. The Most Important Energy is Peng Energy and it Must Be Maintained At All Times: Peng requires the ground connection. It’s an expansive force, as if your body is inflated like a balloon. When you try to push a basketball or beach ball into a pool of water, peng is the feeling you get that — even though the ball is going into the water, pressure is building for it to spring back. Peng and the ground path must be connected through all movement. If it isn’t, you aren’t doing Tai Chi. Peng is involved in every “energy” in Tai Chi.

3. All Movement Must Be Connected Through the Body: Whole-body movement is crucial. Power should flow like a ribbon from the ground, connected. All I have to do is ask another Tai Chi person to grab me with both hands and pull me down. It becomes quickly obvious that they have no concept of whole-body movement.

4. Silk-Reeling is a Key Component of Tai Chi: It’s amazing how poorly this skill is taught, when it is one of the founding principles of Tai Chi. Yang LuChan would have learned it in the Chen Village before he created Yang style, but it has been lost. Some teachers actually say that silk-reeling happens when you “imagine” chi spiraling from the ground through the attacking hand. That’s wrong, too. Silk-reeling is a way of spiraling and moving power in a connected way through the body. It relies on the first three concepts (ground, peng and whole-body movement) plus the next two.

5. Dan Tien Rotation: Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang says Tai Chi is “One Principle, Three Techniques.” The main principle is “Dan Tien guides all movement and when one part moves, all parts move.” The three techniques are “dan tien rotating side to side; dan t’ien rotating over and back; dan t’ien rotating in a combination of these directions. Dan t’ien rotation must be involved in every movement.

6. Opening and Closing the Kua: Some past Tai Chi masters have said that “to understand the kua is to understand Tai Chi.” But I see Tai Chi players all the time who couldn’t find their kua with both hands because they’ve never been taught this concept. Every movement in Tai Chi involves opening one kua and closing the other in some way.

7. Maintain a Centered Stance: I saw a video recently of a guy teaching tai chi and he began Grasp The Swallow’s Tail. His right hip suddenly stuck out to the right and it appeared that the slightest push would send him off-balance. In Chen tai chi, standing stake is used to help you relax, sink, develop peng, build leg strength, tuck the hips slightly and remain centered — but then almost every movement in the form is performed to maintain a centered stance. In Chen Tai Chi, beginning students are made to hold stances while the entire class is corrected individually. Often, they collapse from leg fatigue. It takes a lot of strength to hold a centered stance. The better the stance, the harder it is to hold. And this is one reason you see such powerful legs on Chen masters. If you think pain is not involved in Tai Chi practice, you are not studying Tai Chi.

Those are my top concepts of internal movement. You add to this little things like keeping the head up, hollow the chest, keep the knees slightly bent, and the small things that help refine your Tai Chi.

Americans are prone to self-delusion. If a guy tells us he’s a master, we believe it and everything he says is the truth and it can’t be denied. And by golly if my master tells me I’m learning Tai Chi, then I’m learning Tai Chi.

Put these “masters” in front of the real deal and they crumble like a house of cards. In the meantime, they’re teaching Americans the wrong things, having them “cultivate chi” instead of learn to move properly. They focus on the trees — keeping the wrists straight and the shoulders sunk–and they ignore (or don’t know) the forest, where the real skills are. Too often, the teachers were not taught high-quality Tai Chi.

The best you can do for yourself is to NOT believe everything an authority figure tells you, but to investigate, research and compare, and don’t close your mind to the possibility that you just might be learning pretty poor quality Tai Chi.

Ken Gullette has studied martial arts for 36 years and owns one of the best online martial arts schools in the world, teaching Chen Tai Chi, Hsing-I Chuan, and Baguazhang to members worldwide through video lessons, audio, e-books, conference calls, and personal coaching. He has studied with members of the Chen family — creators of Tai Chi — and their disciples. He also has a blog that’s dedicated to high-quality internal arts.

How Candida Die Off Symptoms Affects The Human Body

Author: admin

Both males and females of any age levels can be infected and suffer from any degree of yeast infection. One type of yeast infections which is very common is brought about by candida albicans causing the so called candida die off infection. Once you are affected by it, candida die off symptoms will start showing and bother you. So, might as well read on to know more about it and obtain the best possible solutions.

Generally, candida albicans is a yeast that naturally thrives on the human skin. How does it become a problem and result to produce candida die off symptoms? Once the good bacteria can no longer maintain the good number of candida, then the good bacteria are destroyed and become unable to fight against the bad ones.

By then, yeast infection is formed as soon as candida yeast develops and reproduces nonstop. With the lack of good bacteria in the body, the overwhelming candida yeast now causes white and substantial discharge to accumulate in spots where yeast thrive, especially in shady and damp body spots such as the mouth, human genitals and other body parts covered by the skin’s folds.

Anyone who gets affected by candida die off symptoms can be advised to do this and do that. But first, consider which among them are safe and reliable. It is better to be safe than sorry. You need not just a dependable and secure remedy but a permanent treatment. The symptoms of candida die off could be agonizing so take note of any sign. Most often, patients will notice a dryness and itchiness of affected skin area and a whitish discharge.

Symptoms of Candida die off may vary depending on many factors like the degree of the infection but the common manifestations include fatigue, bloating, brain fog, constipation, even digestive trouble because the causative agent candida lives predominantly in the digestive tract of the body. Craving for sugars and carbohydrates, skin breakouts, sore throat, exhaustion and sweating are also some of the common symptoms for cadida die off infection.

As soon as a candida cell dies off, its body releases some toxins from which join into the human bloodstream in the bowels. It can affect and damage the liver because the decomposing dead cells of the fungi are comparable to the action of processed alcohol taken into the body. Thus, candida die off symptoms are also similar to the indications of a person having hang-over.

How to Lose Fat in Your Obliques – Three Top Tips to Get You Started

Author: admin

How to lose fat in your obliques is a question asked by many adults. They regularly manage to do it through long, hard and boring workouts and diets, only to find the fat re-appear weeks later when they stop the diet or workouts. Well I am going to tell you how to lose fat in your obliques and keep it off for life.

Before we start on how to lose fat in your obliques, we need to know what the oblique muscles are. Without getting too technical they are the muscles in our stomach which are so often covered by the fat with the slang name of love handles. It is important to know this as the aim first is to get rid of the fat covering the obliques and then to tone the oblique muscles up so they give a good shape to the body.

If we don’t get rid of the fat first, then all the hard work that goes in knowing how to lose fat in your obliques will be a waste of time as oblique muscles can not be seen if they are covered with a layer of fat. So what are the three top tips on how to lose fat in your obliques?

Number one. A change of eating habits are needed. Note I said a change of food and not a reduction of food. Too many people think that fat is caused by eating too much. It is not. It is a combination of age and eating the wrong types of food. We touch on this more in our guide however the basic rules when it comes to your diet is to stay away from estrogen foods, eat more fat burning foods and also don’t assume that because food is known as being healthy that it means it will help you to lose weight. The whole aim of the change of diet is to get your overall body fat percentage down to 10%.

Number two. Once you have your overall body fat percentage down to 10% you will have noticed the fat starting to disappear. You can then pat yourself on the back as you would have achieved the first step into how to lose fat in your obliques. As well as looking better you will also notice that you have increased energy and concentration. This is because of the types of food that you are consuming. The next step is to start an all over body work out which we give full details on in our guide. An all over body work out will burn fat more than if you just carry out oblique exercises. Your metabolism raises and you will also be left with energy at the end of the work out so you can carry on your normal day.

Number three. This tip is really that a positive frame of mind is needed to keep fat away from your obliques. Get into the habit of a 20 minute all over body workout at least four times a week. Remember that swimming and walking are very good exercises. As you can see it really is quite simple and by adopting an attitude that fits in with the rest of your life plan you can not only know how to lose fat in your obliques but you will also be living proof of it.

So to recap what we have learned on how to lose fat in your obliques.

  • Three things are needed. A good eating plan, an overall body work out and a positive frame of mind.
  • The trick is to adopt these three tips as part of your normal working day so they come naturally and don’t seem like a big task.
  • More information on how to lose fat in your obliques is available and the guide will take you from fat to slim within a month.

Love Building

Author: admin

What is it that we can do to build love? Can research into romantic love or relationship give us some guidance about love building?

Robert Epstein,Ph.D., has some very interesting ideas about that, as does Helen Fisher,Ph.D. and John Gottman,Ph.D., has contributed some powerful research to this debate also.

And for that matter, what role does chocolate play in building love? Or Heartmath?

From Science Daily; “A study led by Professor Ian Macdonald found that consumption of a cocoa drink rich in flavanols — a key ingredient of dark chocolate — boosts blood flow to key areas of the brain for two to three hours.”

People tend to bond emotionally when aroused, through exercise, adventure, or exposure to dangerous situations, and what arousal means is increased blood flow, (but not to the extent of fight of flight) so why not get that arousal physiology going with chocolate?

Helen Fisher,Ph.D. has done some powerfully illuminating work on ‘in love or just out of love’ brains using fMRI, or functional magetic resonance imaging.

What she has discovered is that romantic love (what we usually call infatuation) is a function of activation of reward centers of the brain, and she says romantic love functions like an appetite, and can serve to help us propagate the species.

Fisher has created an application which is designed to help us find a person who we are most likely to experience that “chemistry” with. Her work is available through the commercial dating site called Chemistry.com

Robert Epstein,Ph.D. has been studying the science of relationship, based on the idea that arranged marriages in India, for example, achieve a 95% success rate, that couples who have met very infrequently can build very successful, loving marriage relationship by engaging in love building exercises.

Epstein says those exercises revolve around the “Four Pillars of Relationship”; Commitment, Realistic Expectations, Intimate Knowledge, and Essential Relationship Skills.

Epstein argues that we can build love, and engaging in conscious exercises, like the ’soul gazing’ exercise that he has students in his class do, can be part of building love, and Epstein cites the work of other researchers to validate his ideas.

Soul gazing is done sitting about two feet away from each other , looking deeply into each other’s eyes, trying to look into the very core of your beings. Do this for about two minutes and then talk about what you saw.

The results for students in Epstein’ class, who were paired randomly, were a modest increase in loving of 7%, an 11% increase in liking, and a whopping 45% increase in closeness.

There are many other exercises for couples to do.

John Gottman,Ph.D., has teased out activities engaged in by couples that he and Julie Schwartz-Gottman call the Masters of Marriage by following and observing couples for 30 years at his “Love Lab”. Gottman’s work is both psychological and physiological. He and his team measure physiology by EKG, blood tests, urine tests, history taking, and observation through two- way mirrors.

I have used his model with domestic violence clients/couples, and invariably doing an exercise like discovering your partners love map brings them to a cordial and affiliative interaction, even though there are real life issues going on, and they may just have been going through a discussion in regards to those issues.

I like Gottman’s work for couples who have been together for awhile and who have real conflict going on. Soul gazing for example, may be a bit too intimate at an early stage of rebuilding.

Another aspect of Gottman’s work that has been very useful is his description of what he calls Diffuse Physiological Arousal, which is more commonly known as fight or flight physiology, and his antidote for DPA (diffuse physiological arousal) is for the participants to take their pulse, and if the pulse rate is over 100 beats per minute, to take a time out, which needs to be at least 20 minutes for men, who go up the arousal ladder higher and faster and stay there longer than women.

This is where I like to use an exceptional tool based on heart rate variability biofeedback which helps people become more aware of and able to manage a usually unconscious physiological process, the time between their heart beats.

It turns out that the heart has a brain of its own, a very sophisticated nervous system, which can learn and make decisions independently of any other brain I have.

That heart intelligence is affiliative and cordial, and I can learn to cue it on any given heart beat for an Epstein or a Gottman or a Fisher love building exercise.

In fact, I like to teach my clients to do their own heart rate variability biofeedback process, then I have them do it together holding hands and attending to the heart beat of their relationship heart beat by heart beat, for up to twenty minutes.

Couples learn some very interesting things about themselves and the heart beat of their relationship while doing an exercise which expects attention to their affiliation and cooperation heart beat by heart beat.

So it turns out that there are several great models to follow for love building and lots of great exercises, counseling or non-counseling, to engage in.

But remember relationship only goes on a heart beat at a time, so take care of it.

Michael S. Logan is a brain fitness expert, a counselor, a student of Chi Gong, and licensed one on one HeartMath provider. I enjoy the spiritual, the mythological, and psychological, and I am a late life father to Shane, 10, and Hannah Marie, 4, whose brains are so amazing. http://www.askmikethecounselor2.com

Plastic Surgery And Botox

Author: admin

Modern advances in science are helping women look younger each day. Botox is a miracle of modern science. Since its approval by the FDA in 2002, millions of individuals have injected Botox into their skin to gain a younger look. It helps women remove unwanted wrinkles from their face and eliminate neck bands as well as bothersome crow’s-feet which in turn make for a more youthful appearance. A recent practice among users is Botox parties. Both men and women assemble for drinks and Botox facial injections.

Aside from eliminating unwanted wrinkles, Botox has many other applications. First, Botox can help boost saggy breasts. An injection is placed in the pectoral muscles which temporarily lifts the breast tissue. However, this practice only works on women with smaller cup sizes. Also, Botox can be used to help eliminates excessive sweat on the palms, face, feet, and underarms. Those that suffer from nagging migraines can seek the aid of Botox. An injection is strategically placed into the back side of the head, forehead or brow area. Top Five Worst Exercises To Lose Weight Fast

Author: admin

In this article I’m going to share the five worst exercises to lose weight fast.

It is based not only on my own personal experience (That of losing 30lbs in just 30 days)… but also on what I have witnessed from others.

The bottom line is that if you need to lose weight fast, then this will be one of the most important articles you read because it will help you avoid pointless struggles.

Chances are that the very exercise you continue to do is on the list and you will be able to stop doing it and focus on something that actually works.

One last thing before we get started…

Allow me to point out the word “fast” in the title of this article.

This list is for those who need to lose weight fast.

If you have no desire to shed pounds and inches of fat at lightning speed, then you need not read any further.

Reason is, that any exercise, over time, will most likely give you some results.

But if you need those results quick, then from what I’ve seen, you should not focus all your energy on the following five worst exercises to lose weight fast…

1. Walking

Whether on the treadmill or around the block, walking is a very low intensity workout that just doesn’t have the firepower to melt away pounds of fat quickly.

2. Running

Although a step up from walking, running long distance is a monotonous exercise and like walking, it only involves a very limited number of muscle groups.

3. Biking

Once again, sitting down and peddling a bike greatly limits the amount of fat you can burn because it doesn’t involve the entire body.

4. Situps, crunches or other ab exercises

As long as I’ve lived, I’ve never known a single person to lose any substantial weight performing ab exercises. In my opinion, these are the worst exercises to lose weight

fast.

5. Those silly leg lifts you do on your bedroom floor

You could do a thousand of these things and never shed one ounce of fat.

So there was the list.

There is one common theme that runs throughout these five things. That theme is… that these exercises do not involve the entire body to any great extent.

I’m not telling you that these exercises won’t give you some results. All I’m saying here is that you will have to exercise for hours upon hours if you ever hope to get the

results.

The point is… your time is better spend on others.

Your main goal should be to lose as much weight as possible, as fast as possible… sweating the least amount!

And in order to do that you need to be performing the best exercises to lose weight fast.

Here are two that I’ve found to work quick miracles…

1. Weight lifting

An optimal routine will involve both upper and lower body.

As odd as it may seem, I’ve lost far more fat with my total body weight lifting routine than I’ve ever lost with the typical cardio exercises.

2. A total body workout like Taebo or some other variation

There are three primary reasons why these two workouts work like gangbusters…

First and foremost, they involve the entire body… meaning that all muscle groups are forced to work. This is extremely beneficial for burning the most fat.

Secondly, they force you to exert more energy.

As a result, you will burn more fat off your midsection and every other area of your body.

A third benefit that is often overlooked is that these exercises to lose weight fast build lean muscle.

And lean muscle is absolutely essential if you hope to transform your body because muscle burns a lot of fat.
